    Dubai: More than 100 shops in the Naif Area in Deira were gutted in a fire that started early on Wednesday.

    The incident occurred at around 1:45 am in the Cabin Market on Wednesday morning, according to eyewitnesses.

    The cluster of shops caught fire due to an electrical short circuit in an air-conditioning unit, which was located next to a transformer, according to an unconfirmed witness account.

    The market sold textiles, ready-made garments, perfumes and toys.

    Firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the fire. No civilian injuries have been reported.

    About 10 firefighters were being treated for minor injuries, including smoke inhalation.
