Al Serkal, Staff Reporter<\/p>\n<p>Published: June 17, 2009, 15:45<br \/>\nSharjah: Two armed men stormed into Mashreq Bank on Tuesday afternoon and stole Dh500,000. <\/p>\n<p>\nA senior official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News that the bank was robbed around 2pm. <\/p>\n<p>\nThe suspects armed with knives and hammers took employees and clients hostage. The official said the employees were unable to activate the alarm, which is directly linked to the Operations Control Room at Sharjah Police, because of all the chaos and panic. <\/p>\n<p>\nThe suspects then grabbed Dh500,000 and fled in a getaway vehicle that was waiting for them outside the bank. <\/p>\n<p>In a press statement, Gavin Sanderson, Head of Distribution at Mashreq Bank, said: &#8220;Mashreq confirms there was an incident at the Al Khan branch on Tuesday, June 16, 2pm. During the incident, in which nobody was injured or harmed, two armed men entered the branch, and the incident was over within two minutes.
