Dubai\u2019s Istanbul Land Plans Blocked by Court, Hurriyet Says <\/p>\n

Feb. 1 (Bloomberg) — Dubai Holding LLC\u2019s plans to build two skyscrapers in Istanbul were blocked by Turkey\u2019s highest court, Hurriyet reported, citing Eyup Muhcu, an executive at the Chamber of Architects. <\/p>\n

The court on Jan. 19 voted unanimously to halt the project by the company owned by Dubai\u2019s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al- Maktoum, saying it was against the law and may cause irreparable damage, the newspaper reported. <\/p>\n

Dubai Holding won an auction in March 2007 for 46,000 square meters (495,000 square feet) of municipally owned land in Istanbul\u2019s business district of Levent with a bid of $705 million excluding taxes. The company\u2019s plan to build the skyscrapers, also called Dubai Towers, was challenged by the association of urban planners and architects. <\/p>\n

Feb. 1 (Bloomberg) — Emaar Properties PJSC, the United Arab Emirates\u2019 biggest publicly traded real-estate developer, said it bought a 40 percent stake in Emaar Turkey held by Cihan Kamer, the chairman of the Atasay Group. <\/p>\n

The purchase boosted Emaar\u2019s stake in Emaar Turkey to 100 percent, the Dubai-based company said in a statement posted on the Dubai Financial Market Web site today. <\/p>\n
