Yet there were many fossil members of the four sub-orders (Protosuchia, Mesosuchia, Sebecosuchia and Eusuchia) which inhabited the Earth as early as the Jurassic period (208-144 million years ago) and which are long since extinct. Only members of the sub-orders Sebecosuchia and Eusuchia were around during the Miocene epoch, but it is not absolutely certain which type was present at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uaeinteract.com\/history\/e_walk\/con_6\/con6_1.asp\"><u><font color=\"#810081\">Jebel Barakah<\/font><\/u><\/a>, although it may have resembled the gavial (sub-order Eusuchia, family Gavialidae).
