only to be followed a few months later with an even greater succession of record down limits being reached.  It is impossible for this price volatility to be the result of an objective valuation of the listed companies themselves. The article stated that the value of traded shares on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) fell 14.1 percent to AED 348 billion in 2006 from AED 405.2 billion in 2005, according to a statement.  DFM&#8217;s market capitalization was AED 319.2 billion in 2006, a decline of 24.1 per cent compared to AED 420.5 billion in 2005.  DFM&#8217;s trading volume grew 55.2 per cent to 39.6 billion shares traded compared to 25.5 billion shares traded in 2005.  Volume of daily traded shares rose to 141.1 million shares compared to 85.4 million shares during 2005, a growth of 65.2 per cent.  The volume of executed transactions was 2.4 million transactions in 2006, up 41.1 per cent compared to 1.7 million transactions in 2005.  DFM&#8217;s General Index fell 44.4 per cent during 2006 compared to 2005.<br \/>\nSecurity market regulators have recognized the need to put in place structures that will act to boost investor confidence and subsequent investment in the securities markets.
