Hello dear butterflies<br \/>\nThis page will help students of English Literature in their first levels<br \/>\nbecause the basic literary terms will be explained<\/p>\n<p>\n.. <font face=\"Book Antiqua\">Let&#8217;s start<\/font><br \/>\nThe first thing you look at when analysing a story or a poem is the <\/p>\n<p><b>Theme<\/b> .. the central idea of a literary work<\/p>\n<p>Then you can look for <br \/><b>Figure of speech <\/b> .. it is the way of saying something other than the ordinary way and it includes all elements that I&#8217;ll mention later<br \/>\n\u0627\u0644\u0645\u062d\u0633\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0628\u062f\u064a\u0639\u064a It is called in Arabic<\/p>\n<p><b>Connotation<\/b> .. is the deep meaning of a word or what the word stands for<br \/><b>Denotation<\/b> .. is the literal meaning of a word<br \/><u>for example<\/u> .. the denotative meaning for the word (white) is the color but it stands for pureness and innocence<\/p>\n<p><b>Simile<\/b> .. a comparison between tow things by using words such as: like &#8211; similar to &#8211; resembles &#8211; seems &#8211; as<br \/>\nexample .. She is beautiful as the moon<br \/><b>Metaphor<\/b> .. again it is a comparison between tow things BUT without using the previous words<br \/><u>example<\/u> .. She is a moon<\/p>\n<p><b>Personification<\/b> .. when a human aspect is given to an animal, an object or a concept<br \/><u>example<\/u> .. time is running<\/p>\n<p><b>Onomatopoeia<\/b> .. when the word itself indicates a specific sound<br \/><u>example<\/u> .. buzz \u2013 quack<\/p>\n<p><b>Rime Scheme<\/b> .. the final sound of a stanza or a poem<br \/>\n\u0627\u0644\u0633\u062c\u0639 It is called in Arabic<\/p>\n<p><b>Stanza<\/b> .. a group of lines in a poem<\/p>\n<p><b>Tone<\/b> .. it is the writer&#8217;s attitude towards his work &#8221; poem &#8211; story &#8211; play &#8221;  and it can be sarcastic or gloomy and so on<\/p>\n<p><b>Irony<\/b> .. a use of language with some kind of incongruity .. and there are three kinds of irony<br \/><b>Verbal Irony<\/b> .. when you mean the opposite of what you have said<br \/><b>Dramatic Irony<\/b> .. by implying different meanings from the intended one<br \/><b>Irony of Situation or situational irony<\/b> .. when there is an incongruity between actual circumstances and what would seem appropriate<\/p>\n<p><b>Alliteration<\/b> .. the repetition of the initial sound of words whether consonants or vowels<br \/><u>example<\/u> .. (<font color=\"#FF0000\">m<\/font>ap &#8211; <font color=\"#FF0000\">m<\/font>oon ) or (<font color=\"#FF0000\">a<\/font>pprove &#8211; <font color=\"#FF0000\">u<\/font>nderstand )    0<\/p>\n<p><b>Paradox<\/b> .. a statement which contains  contradictory elements<\/p>\n<p>As for images and they are found a lot in stories and poems .. there are three kinds<br \/><b>Visual Image<\/b> .. when the poet or writer gives a clear description for a place or anything .. you feel as if you are seeing the picture clearly<br \/><b>Auditory Image<\/b> .. it is the same but here you feel as if you are listening to the sound being described<br \/><b>Tactile<\/b> .. here the description is given to something can be touched<br \/>\n&#8221; rough &#8211; soft &#8211; hot &#8211; cold and so on &#8220;<\/p>\n<p>\nThese are the most important figures of speech used in literature<br \/>\nbut of course there are <i>Many<\/i> more<\/p>\n<p>Now dear butterflies you can choose a poem and analyse it <br \/>\nfirst look at new words then<br \/>\nthe theme then<br \/>\nfigures of speech<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.satfrequencies.com\/girls\/images\/up\/16714231511655276713.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>May God Bless You All<\/font><\/font><font color=\"#800080\"><\/p>\n<p>\n.<\/font><\/font><br \/>\n<\/font><\/b>\n        <\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In The Name Of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful ..
